Somatics in brief:

Somatics is the term coined by Thomas Hanna for a series of exercises he developed to relieve muscle tension caused by Sensory Motor Amnesia i.e. when your muscles have forgotten how to relax!

These exercises, though apparently very gentle, work powerfully to alleviate pain and aches caused by over-worked muscles, which then ‘pull’ on bones and joints leading to either acute or chronic pain.

I teach Somatics exercises both on an individual and group basis and I combine Somatics with Yoga postures in a practice I call ‘Yoga Soma’.
